No I was thinking just leave the varnish as it is,. pretty good condition. plus requires zero imaginative
thinking from me. I've got enough to think about vis a vis where are they going to go. Do I use them to make the entry hall? or do I get a beterr sound, heat&cold insulation from a 2nd hand patio door as I've done upstairs in the bedrooms? (which is incredible, cooler in summer, warmer in winter, la grande silence, can't hear municality tractors rumbling up the road, really incredible sound proofing.
I've cleaned them up and the varnish finish is 'milky' so guess I will have to do something with them, sand back, linseed oil/varnish? Paint blue!?
The difficult thing about making the 'hall', there's a radiator on the wall that will need to come off, also.. the floor sinks. Best idea would be to lift up the tiles, lay a slab the size of the 'porch', insulate that from rest of floor and fit a 6 foot by 3 'floor mat'. So the prep work for it all is far higher than actual fitting. re modern 140 wide 225 ish high pvc or alu door instead, yes better noise reduction but 'heavy' looking, whereas this could look quite elegant and still make a reasonable difference. Either way before I do the prep work I need to decide what the door unit will be so I'll try a test setup to see.
The hobbit door is really nice, they put sealed d/g units in at some point, really heavy, nice wood (oak?) and will be good in back bedroom above kitchen. Only drag, hinged the wrong side. (blue face in bedrrom ... would be ok if door opened out into landing space outside)
